Reading a rom-com during holiday season? Add to it, analogies to bookstagram and a female protagonist who is an avid reader and author, you’ve got yourself a blockbuster. This book has been in my TBR and I had purchased it as a part of my target book haul a couple of months back. The cover itself was warm and inviting and as I delved into the book, there was nothing stopping me.
Kara Sullivan, a famous romance author is facing a writer’s block. Her best friend, Cristina’s wedding is in a week, and the worst possible thing happens; her ex-boyfriend, Ryan from college is one of the groomsmen! An enemies to lover trope, the bickering between Ryan and Kara is humorous and relatable in today’s circumstance. Kara is able to defeat her writer’s block as she and Ryan rekindle their romance. But isn’t it a rom-com without a twist? This twist was what made the book standout and I loved the way Kate has written the last quarter of the book.
First of all, I simply adored the mention of bookstagram in this book. It made it so much more relatable. As a Bookstagrammer, all the tiny moments were perfectly captured in the book. For instance, a Bookstagrammer almost always has a book with them and upon finding a gorgeous photo setting for a book, who is going to forgo of the chance to click some amazing pictures? Along with these details, Kara, as a character is sculpted beautifully. Not only is her journey from a college girl to a successful author is beautifully penned but also the way Kara’s definition of love evolves through the same phases is praise worthy! Lastly, the twist that is presented in the book was the highlight for me. It is the way the character develops during this twist that made this a great read! A quick read, Talk Bookish to Me was a swoon-worthy romance read for me and I’ll recommend it to all my rom-com fellow readers!
